Metal Stamping & Forming

Precision Stamped & Formed Components

Gelec manufactures bespoke stamped and formed metal components across aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel, zintech and other alloys. Our solutions are engineered for accuracy, repeatability and cost efficiency, delivering consistent quality from the first batch to the thousandth.

What is metal stamping and forming?

Metal stamping is a high-speed process where flat sheets are shaped into precise parts using dies and presses. Forming, as a broader term, also includes techniques like deep drawing and roll forming, key for sculpting metals into complex profiles or parts.

Stamping produces components quickly with repeatable accuracy across every production run.  Unit costs are low at medium – high volumes and stable dimensional control is maintained even on complex geometries.

In-line stamping

For projects where volumes are modest or design evolution is expected, in line stamping offers a highly cost effective route.

This uses fairly basic tools, designed to achieve simple processes. Complex parts may require multiple tools to achieve the finished product.

Each tool has its own station, and is manned by an operator. Tooling investment is low (in comparison to Progressive Stamping) and is ideal for low-medium volume requirements.

Best suited for

  • Early stage product development
  • Low volume assemblies
  • Components requiring forming, bending or simple piercings

Key Advantages

1

Repeatable accuracy across every production run

2

Fast cycle times compared with laser cutting and forming

3

Lower unit costs at medium–high volumes

4

Stable dimensional control even on complex geometries

Progressive stamping

For sustained production where unit cost and throughput matter, progressive stamping (progression press tooling) delivers unmatched efficiency.

Tooling is much more complex and therefore requires higher up-front investment. The tool can achieve ~4-5 separate processes on an automated press, with a finished part coming off the end of it.

Production is much faster and reduces the need for manpower (at each station). Unit pricing can therefore be more competitive (compared with in-line stamping), so is suited to medium-high volume projects.

Best suited for:

  • Automotive, medical, lighting and marine components
  • Continuous production programmes
  • Complex geometries requiring multiple forming stages

Key Advantages

1

High speed production cycles - multiple features formed in a single stroke

2

Lowest cost per unit for medium - high volume programmes

3

Exceptional repeatability due to fixed, multi stage tooling

4

Reduced handling - fewer operations, fewer variables, fewer defects
